Jon Dowty is a sustainable development consultant who actively encourages an integrated approach to planning and design.
Working closely with project teams, he makes sure that sustainable development, including climate change and health objectives, are taken into account at the outset of a project so that they have the greatest impact.
Jon managed the broad remit of the Borough of Poole sustainable development and community planning team from 1998 to 2003.
Since moving into private practice in 2003, he has provided policy and design advice to the Homes and Community Agency (HCA), local authorities, community groups, and the development industry.
With a background in construction, Jon is skilled at integrating urban design, sustainability and climate change responses – helping to shape ‘best practice’ development proposals.
His work has included masterplanning to deliver the HCA’s Design and Quality Standards; residential development designed to ‘Passivhaus’ standards; sustainable travel projects and travel planning, including work with schools.
Jon has also provided sustainable development, sustainability appraisal and climate change training to local authority planners, and is advising the Poole Quays Neighbourhood Forum on their sustainable travel policies and proposals.
